Jaipur plans AI-powered traffic command centre to curb congestion, boost safety

Jaipur: The city police are fast-tracking plans to set up an AI-driven Integrated Traffic Command Centre to ease congestion and improve road safety, with the proposal gaining momentum after a review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma on Thursday. The project will be developed jointly by the Jaipur Traffic Police, Jaipur Municipal Corporation and Jaipur Development Authority. A team led by the deputy commissioner of police (traffic) has been formed to prepare the blueprint. “To set up the centre we need land. The govt has directed JDA to allot a parcel to the Jaipur Commissionerate, but it is yet to be demarcated,” said Yogesh Dadhich, additional commissioner (traffic and administration). Officials said the proposed facility will house an AI-based Integrated Traffic Management System capable of detecting violations and generating e-challans using Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology. “This centre will be far more advanced than the existing Abhay Command Centre. It will enable automated, citywide monitoring and control of traffic operations from a single facility,” a senior traffic official said. The upcoming system is expected to replace the limited capabilities of the current setup by enabling real-time detection of violations and streamlined enforcement. Police officials added that the AI-backed integrated centre aims to reduce traffic snarls and significantly bring down road accidents by improving surveillance, response time and overall traffic management across Jaipur.
